Nas redondezas de fazendas de gado, na primeira metade do s\u00e9culo XIX, o povoado foi sendo formado, passando a ser distrito, subordinado ao Munic\u00edpio de Sum\u00e9, em 18 de novembro de 1952, quando publicada a Lei Estadual n\u00ba 816.
